After watching the videos on Vision and Hearing, describe how this information impacts you as a teacher.

It's funny that I'm writing about this today.  Funny because it's such a coincidence.  As I was substitute teaching 6th grade this week, I noticed two students in particular.  Both students were squinting to see the board.  They both were constantly blinking in order to clear their vision, sometimes blinking one eye then the other.  At lunch, one of the regular teachers had brought it up so see if we had noticed it as well.

Watching the video on vision confirmed my suspicions about these two kiddos.  If a student cannot see well or hear well, their brain won't process specific information correctly.  The information can get distorted and the student can lose that information.  It is so important for everyone, not just students, to be able to see and hear clearly in order to have a healthier functioning brain.  This impacts me as a teacher because if a student is struggling with these obstacles, it makes it harder for them to learn and causes barriers to my teaching.

Lesson 1

After watching the videos on brain architecture, plasticity, and understanding the impact of the environment on a child, how does this information impact you as a teacher?

Knowing how the brain works and understanding the architecture, plasticity and impact of environment helps me to understand that with each child comes different circumstances and different learning styles.  These circumstances and learning styles can be the result of many different things.  As a teacher, I will need to be prepared and be flexible to work with these differences to ensure success in the learning of my students.
